"the stimulating elements of this program are the extreme technical precision, expressive clarity, and, above all, the poetic air that permeates all their creations." -Geovani Galeas, La Prensa Gráfica, San Salvador

Residency Activities

In addition to full stage performances, Bridgman/Packer residencies can include informal studio performances, choreographic commissions, workshops and master classes. Workshops and classes include:

Partnering Workshop:

The popular PARTNERING WORKSHOP transmits Bridgman/Packer's unique approach to partnering for beginners through advanced performers. The class is non-gender specific, emphasizes the release and ease as well as the strength of partnering, and builds to develop exhilarating and risk-taking partnering in duet, trio and group forms.

"The forty students who attended the workshop were of varied dance levels and genres. I was impressed to see the success of your material for all of these students. Everyone was fully involved throughout, ending the experience in a kind of breathless glow. I also observed how carefully you structured the experience of touch for these students who were duet novices. They all seemed comfortable and ready for the next step as the class progressed."

Alice Trexler
Director of Dance
Dept.of Drama-Dance, Tufts University

Technique Class:

A class that emphasizes breath, weight, dynamic physicality, and exhilarating movement. The work discovers and strengthens the connections in the body, harnessing the body's power and momentum. Focus is on the connection to the floor, clarity of intent, and the building of performance skills.

Live Performance and Video Technology (5-7 days recommended):

This workshop examines the relationship of video and live performance from a choreographic point of view. We explore how video technology can become an integral part of the performance and the creative process; how it can offer a vital layering element in choreographic composition; and how it can add depth to the realization of the choreographic intent. Participants will work on short choreographic projects. Basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro or iMovie editing software is helpful but not required. Participants with or without a technological orientation are welcome. Requirements: A rehearsal space that can get a visual black-out, computer lab with editing software.

Other class offerings:

Composition/Improvisation; Body Awareness (based on Alexander Technique and Laban-Bartenieff Movement Fundamentals); Massage for Performers; Movement for Actors; Movement for Athletes, Lecture/discussions on Dance and Technology.

Choreographic Commissions:

Bridgman and Packer have received numerous commissions to choreograph on professional companies including the Groundworks DanceTheater of Cleveland, Dublin Contemporary Dance Theatre, Contemporary Dance Theatre of Cincinnati, Cleveland's Repertory Project, and Betty Jones and Fritz Ludin's Dances We Dance Company of Honolulu. They have set large ensemble pieces as well as duets from their own repertory.

Bridgman and Packer have created group works for numerous university repertory companies including Ohio State University, NYU Tisch School for the Arts, St. Olaf College, Arizona State University, California Institute for the Arts, Rhode Island College, and University of Utah.
